The howling letter Empty The howling letter

Bericht van Eris Leva di dec 25 2018, 18:31

And she would bow to no one

The Slytherin girl had been smart, or at least that she what she wants to think of herself. The moment an owl dropped a red letter in front of her at breakfast... Eris panicked. The fact that the girl already knew from who it was, made it only worse. It was to expect, right? It wouldn't be her parents if they didn't make sure Eris did what they wanted. The blonde her future was already made for her. Following the career her parents have. Not that she minded, the girl did want to become a well-known Auror.

So here she was running through the halls as if her life depended on it. Who knows maybe it did. With a shaky breath, she ran into the common room. She let herself fall on a couch. With shaky hands, the blonde girl opened the letter. It immediately jumped open, turning in the howler. "Eris Kynthia Leva!" it began loud and clear, making the girl flinch at it "God... mom not that name" She only spoke in a whisper, not daring to interrupt the letter. Hoping it would finish. "How dare you test us! Thinking that we wouldn't know about the winter ball!" Eris bit on her lower lip with a guilty look. Plan at failed. Of course.

"You will be going to that ball, young lady! If not your father and I will take all your allowance and will lock you up every holiday for the entire school year." The only thing Eris could do was watching with wide eyes and open mouth. They wouldn't... It seemed her parents knew her all too well with the next words of the howler. "O yes we would!! Don't embarrass us and go to the ball as we raised you! We have already sent you a dress, and should be on your bed." And without any goodbye, the howler ripped itself apart. With red cheeks that could be compared to tomatoes, Eris cursed. "Shit... I'm doomed..." It was still, making it clear Eris was thinking of who wasn't going to the ball either. "yup, I'm going to die" The words just left her when she looked around in search of her victim. “Unless…!

No one had told him his sixth year would be more difficult then his fifth year. They always talked about the examinations in your fifth and seventh year. Nobody talked about your sixth year. All the teachers probably laughed right now, giving all sixth years a shit pile of homework. ‘This will prepare you for your last and most important year’, yeah right. He sighted and started reading his History book. The Slytherin Common Room was empty, the way he liked it best. Adrian took a bite of a chicken wing. He had asked some food in the kitchen. The House elves had given him the food gladly, they didn’t bother if you asked. It happened more then he would like to admit. But being on his own, away from all the fuss.

His peace got disturbed when a blonde girl walked in. He recognized her as Eris, she was also a sixth year. Adrian shifted his glance from the girl back to his book. But he rapidly looked back at her when someone started screaming at her. He pitied the girl, he had received a howler too in his fourth year. It wasn’t nice to get them… Adrian tried not to listen to what the howler had to say. But that was a hard job to do when the female voice echoed through the Common Room. She, he guessed Eris mother, talked about the Winter Ball and the fact the girl wasn’t going. He hummed, he wasn’t going either. He didn’t like crowded places and would rather stay at the lake then go there. It seemed like Eris would have to go, otherwise she would get grounded. Adrian would have smiled, if the girl wasn’t looking at him like he was her victim. “No f*cking way”, he said out loud and frowned.

The big question was. How did her mother know about it? Did she have spies in the school to follow her daughter? Wouldn’t surprise Eris. Her mother is very scary when she wants something or is pissed. Even her dad was scared of his wife. Doesn’t that tell enough? For a few next seconds, Eris just stared at the shredded letter. Glad that is over. While thinking about how she could save her own skin Eris saw someone else in the room. Wouldn’t have been interesting, if it wasn’t just her luck it was someone that didn’t go to the ball either.

Eris had heard from some girls he wasn’t going. You would be surprised how much those girls gossipped. How they even get all those information is still a mystery.  His reaction was clear sign those girls were right. And so Eris stood up and walked towards him with full confidence. He better says yes. A no won’t be accepted anyway. “be my date to the ball Adrian” She begged. “ Pretty please” Begging normally wasn’t her style, but she would do anything to keep her mom of getting angry. A shudder went through her spine of an angry mother…

It would never be nice receiving a Howler, from anyone. Her mother raged on, the girl seemed to have a hard time. The only time he got one was because he had put another student in the Hospital Wing. Adrian wasn't proud of that action. A spell went wrong and the other boy had grown a second head. Well yeah, no parent would like to get message his son had put a second head on someone. Or, get the message your son has a second head.

The Howler shedded itself in little pieces after it was done. Adrian should've looked or walked away. But no, instead he looked like the dumb fool he is at the girl and she looked back. Sometimes people didn't have to say a word for him to know what they want. And she wanted him, he felt it. So he gave his answer before she could say something. But fuck no wasn't enough for Eris. “be my date to the ball Adrian” She begged. “Pretty please”, he also stood up and took his stuff to get away. "I said nooo", he whined, "Besides, I barely know you and I hate crowds", he continued. Adrian thought that would be enough but she didn't seem to let him go.

The ball wasn’t something Eris wanted to go. But it seems she had no choice. It was only when the howler finally shredded itself that Eris could relax again. She could even feel how her cheeks are burning red. God, this was so embarrassing. Glad she didn’t open it in the great hall. So it did come as a surprise when she saw Adrian sitting in the same room. Maybe her luck wasn’t completely gone. Time to ask him out. Of course, Eris didn’t care that most of the time that men asked the women out.

He did say no even before she stood completely before him. Yet she just ignored it. when Eris wanted something she will get it. Whatever it takes. With a roll of her eyes by his second rejection. Standing in front of the boy to keep him from walking away. "Besides, I barely know you and I hate crowds", A Huff left her lips. Eris knew that. “ You think I like crowds?” Nope, she didn’t either. And her parents knew why. Her sensitive ears couldn’t handle the loud noises. But they did find a solution for that. custom earplugs. And now she has no excuse to decline a ball.

I rather endure the torture of a crowd than the torture of and my angry mother. Meaning I will drag you down with me!” Oh yeah, that sounded perfect. “ I wouldn’t mind owling my mother, you do know she knows your dad right?” A dangerous smirk appeared on her lips. “And my mother can be very….” Eris had to think how to explain it simple and innocent “persuasive"

She stood in front of him, a head smaller then the boy, and certain to drag him to the ball. He didn't know much of the ball. That it was tomorrow in the Great Hall and a lot of students would go. Adrian never went to the ball ever since he could go in his fourth year. He had declined multiple girls over the years. Not that he was that famous, but girls did ask him out. Weird.

Eris was flustered red as she went on. She didn't like crowds too, apperantly. "A reason more not to go!", he exclaimed and wanted to move but she held him back. The girl raged on, now on another level. She threatened him by draging him down with her. Adrian actually liked the sound of that and smirked. But that disappeared when she brought his dad up. He wasn't afraid of his adoptive dad, he was more afraid of the fact Eris might know he was adopted. Or, what her mother could do. His dad was a well respected Auror. Adrian didn't think Eris knew anything or her mother actually could harm his fathers career. Neither would his father harm him if he declined a woman to go to the ball. But it wasn't very nice either.

So the Slytherin laughed softly, dragging his hand over his face in utter defeat. It was his turn to be flustered. "Okay, okay...", he sighted. "I'll go to that stupid ball with you", he may have laughed but Adrian didn't really look happy at the girl. "You're a vicious girl, I can appreciate that", he said as he gathered the rest of his stuff. "You're name is Eris, right?", he wasn't even sure with who he was going out with. She was lucky he had some nice clothes at Hogwarts for stuff like this. The ball was tomorrow, he wasn't prepared for this...

Damn she felt way too desperate. A feeling she loathed. The girl rather is tortured than asking for someone's help. Yet here she was, begging. Yeah her mother was that scary. She had to keep herself from chuckling. Adrian his reaction was actually rather funny. Bet he regretted being here at the same time as her. And she was lucky she found him on time. Threatening people was not something she was scared of either.

If he was smart he would just agree. Or else the Slytherin girl would bug him all day until he accepts. Eris knows a lot of things. It was because of that, that she knew who all was an Auror. Well, she had to learn all their names from her mother. “YESS” She jumped in the air, looking probably very ridiculous. Yet the blond didn’t seem to care. “and thanks, it runs in the family” It was something the girl was proud of. “Jup, my parents are obsessed with Greek mythology.” With a shrug of her shoulders, she finally could relax again.

“Thanks for going with me tho! I really didn’t want to die just yet.” Her neck was getting a bit stiff. “Jeez… why are you so tall” He was a head taller, making it that she had to put her head backward. Not that she really minded. She liked tall men rather than short once, where you have to look down for. A grin graced her lips yet again. “We both probably will regret going to the ball” With a soft sigh she falls on the couch again. “ Do you want to follow in the footsteps of your dad?”

She actually jumped of joy because he said yes. He wanted to tell her she probably never had a boyfriend. Instead he said, "You're way too excited for this". Adrian must admit, he liked her spirit and told her so. The boy wasn't surprised she said it was a family charistic. He just kind of shrugged. “Jup, my parents are obsessed with Greek mythology.”, she answered when he asked about her name. It was a strange answer, knowing she was a pure-blood witch. Adrian didn't know much about the Muggle world or their stories like mythology. "What does it mean then, Eris?", he guessed it must have some kind of meaning.

Eventually she thanked him for joining her to the ball. He kind of rolled his eyes. "Thank me when the night is over", he couldn't promise the Slytherin she would have a nice evening. Adrian wasn't made for stuff like that. “Jeez… why are you so tall”, he frowned, "Because I grew like a normal person, you're like a House Elf", he joked and followed her lead to the couches. “We both probably will regret going to the ball”, she sighted and he noded. "I'm already regretting being here, so yeah", he ran his hand through his hair, making it a mess. "You own me big, you realise that right?", she was in great debt with him now. Oh boy, when the day comes she'll have to help him out. She'll wish she never asked him out.

Eris asked him about his dad and if he had the same ambition. "No, I don't want to be an auror", he simply answered. Adrian never talked about his future interests. He knew what he wanted to do after he graduated. But he never talked about it except for his parents and some teachers. "You?", he asked.
