• gentleman: duncan has learn some manners, his mother was quite strict about that. he knows how to treat others and has respect for those he thinks deserve it. he can also be the typical english gentleman, with a cup of tea and a thick scottish accent.
  
• scarred: being a half vampire and fighting in the second wizarding war scarred duncan for life. he has literal scars hidden on his body, but most of the damage is done in his head. it's not as severe as PTSD, but he likes to be alone some times to calm down.
  
• quick learner: being a half vampire has its pros when you're a quick learner. duncan does not have a photographic memory but he's very fast in memorizing and learning new things. this made him an excellent student.

nobody expected that the young, beautiful witch called lisanna would fall for the rough and kinda brute vampire named victor. they met on a raining day, when victor was hunting for yet another neck to bite. but instead he found a young lady, standing outside in the rain, crying. he reassured her and asked what happened. she told him that her lover had left her only a week before their marriage. victor, not sure what drove him, told her that he would take care of the man. and so he did, he slit his throat and drank his blood, only to return to the lady and asked her to stay with him. thankful for the help and a bit confused by what had happened, she accepted his offer and in the following weeks the two grew closer and closer.
they just got married when lisanna got pregnant from their first child. a boy was born and the new parents called him duncan, after his dark hair. he grew up in a healthy household. the barlows got all the money they needed, so there was always food on the table. duncan was just ten months old, when they found out that the child was a half vampire. it did not matter for the parents, but they had no clue how this would effect him. but they decided to just let it go and see for themselfs.
duncan's youth was nothing special. he was a very quick learner, even on a young age. he read book after book, memorizing everthing about it. his parents found out that he was particularly interested in medicine and medical herbs. so they bought him more books about it and he just read them all.
he was eleven when he got his hogwarts letter, where he got sorted into ravenclaw. his wits and natural curiosity got him into trouble most of the time, but he was very good in talking himself out of said trouble. by far, his best subject was herbology, but he was also a strong contender in charms and transfiguration. althought nothing special happened whil he was at hogwarts, he became a prefect and later on head boy. he was, however, not a very good flyer and did not like to attent the quidditch matches. he got high grades for both his owls and newts, so much people thought he would go to be an auror. but, duncan did not.
the young wizard was curious to the outside world, but not the wizarding world, no. he wanted to learn more from the non magical world, the muggles. so when he finished his years of education at hogwarts, he left the wizarding world and started another study in the muggle world. this time to become a doctor, a surgeon to be exact. during his studies he became a profound doctor and got a taste for anything related to blood exams. he wasn't sure if this was because of his origins or anything else, but he was determind to find a way to make more and more effective use of blood transfusion.
for years he worked in a muggle hospital, researching and perfecting his technic, hoping for a breakthrough. and he was so close, but at that moment he was called back to his old life. the second wizarding war had started and his service was needed. he thought the deatheaters, he healed the wounded, but the war had its lasting effects on him. he was used to having death and disease around him, but this was something different. the war changed him, made him even more certain that he wanted to do something good for the world, both the wizarding and the muggle world. but duncan wasn't sure if he could do this in the muggle world. so after the war, he returned to the wizarding world, started working at the st mungo's hospital for magical maladies and injuries, where he got the function of healer. duncan worked her for a couple of years, before he decided to sent an owl to hogwarts, with the question if they needed a herbology teacher. knowing that he wasn't able to expand his knowledge here in the hospital, he got the job and moved to his old school. he wanted to teacher the younger generations, but it also gave him some free time for his research and his love for the plants.
